On Friday, from Krakow, they said they saw news of a bomb exploding right near their home, killing five people and wounding 15. “It could have been me walking with my granddaughter,” Viktoria said between sobs.

Amid the horror, the symbolism of the Passover holiday was not lost on her. She offered a phrase from a song in Hebrew, which she learned as a child: “All the world is a narrow bridge, and the most important thing is to not be afraid.”
